Crucial MX500 500GB (M.2) Review (Page 11 of 11)

Page 11 - Conclusion

Understanding that the traditional 2.5" SATA form factor may not be appropriate in all situations, Crucial ensured all their bases are covered with the MX500 SSD in M.2 2280 specification. Featuring the same Silicon Motion SM2258 controller and Micron's 64-layer 3D TLC NAND ICs, did the MX500 500GB M.2 deliver the same level of balance in performance, features, and price as its 2.5" SATA variant? Looking at our benchmark results in the last eight pages, it looked like they did a little more than that. The M.2 version with double density flash memory ICs compared to the 2.5" SATA version was actually slightly faster according to our benchmarks, even though all MX500 SSDs are technically supposed to perform the same. The traditional MX500 was already one of the most well-rounded mainstream SSDs in performance, features, and price here at APH Networks, and carrying a price tag of around $100 at press time, the Crucial MX500 500GB (M.2) -- along with its slight increase in performance -- further solidifies its position against the competition. Raw performance aside, the MX500 offers native Microsoft eDrive support, power loss protection, great 180TBW write endurance, and a generous 5-year warranty. What more can you want? The Crucial MX500 500GB, regardless of M.2 or 2.5" SATA, remains the budget/mainstream SSD to beat in 2018.
