Crucial X9 Pro 2TB Review (Page 7 of 7)

Page 7 - Conclusion

The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB is aimed at providing storage on-the-go, particularly for photographers and videographers who need a speedy high-capacity SSD as part of their workflow. The portability of the drive is backed up by its IP55 rating, ensuring this device can withstand some tough environments. The aluminum enclosure also provides a decent amount of physical protection and sleek looks. It is lightweight, makes throwing the X9 Pro in a bag to carry around an easy feat. Furthermore, this portable USB solid state drive features 256-bit AES encryption with password protection to prevent unauthorized access to files you decide to upload to it, which is especially important if there is the possibility of losing it while traveling. As for the test results, the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB performed well in the variety of tests it went through. Generally, it performed similarly to the X8 from Crucial, and in some cases was close to the X10 Pro 2TB. When it comes to transferring small file sizes, the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB has its limitations. For larger files, the X9 Pro 2TB is a solid midrange option. It is not as fast as USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 portable SSDs like the X10 Pro, but makes up for it by being more affordable than the ones in that performance category. For on-the-go use, the included cable should be fine, but its length makes using this SSD with a desktop a bit more difficult. There is much to like about the X9 Pro. For the 2TB version, the price comes in at $130 USD, with the 4TB version being $230 and the 1TB at $80. It is within the ballpark for portable SSDs within its performance class, and provides a slew of features to back up the price along with a 5-year warranty. Overall, the Crucial X9 Pro 2TB is a niche product, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced and decent performing midrange external USB SSD, this is one worth considering.
