CRYORIG R1 Universal Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

When I first received the CRYORIG R1 Universal, I was a bit skeptical about installing such a big heatsink from a company I previously heard very little about. After doing some research and using the R1 Universal for a few weeks now, I can now see why there is so much hype surrounding this manufacturer. From the solid design to the quality put into the R1 Universal itself, there is a reason why people talk about the competitiveness of CRYORIG's R1 line of products. CRYORIG really took time to research other designs, came up with some of their own ideas, and implemented it into their product. The individual tower stacks with different sized sections actually worked well to cool our CPU, with airflow we are looking for in a high-end cooler. Not only did they combine these two sections, but they also soldered the heatpipes to the fins to ensure performance which will last, while further increasing surface area for heat conduction. When it comes to size, the R1 Universal is large, but still manages wide compatibility, since the thinner XT140 fan provides enough room for adjacent RAM slots to be clear. This is further helped by the offset design, which makes all this room possible with the fins not even reaching over the RAM area. Even when it comes to installation, the CRYORIG R1 Universal was a simple procedure, and came with everything to make it quick and painless. One improvement that could be made is a slightly more secure bottom plate where the spring loaded screws are located, as it was not installed properly on arrival. Looking at noise, the included fans ran fairly quiet, although the thinner one definitely generated more noise. Of course, with all bigger CPU coolers, you have to be careful in placing your heatsink down, and also ensuring all cables are plugged in before installing, as there will not be much space left to work with after installation. Otherwise, the CRYORIG R1 Universal is truly a strong contender in the high end air cooling market. With a price tag of approximately $80 USD at the time of writing, it is certainly not cheap, but as always, there is a price for performance.
