D-Link DIR-867 Review (Page 5 of 5)

Page 5 - Conclusion

Just like how I unexpectedly got off speeding with a warning last year, the D-Link DIR-867 AC1750 MU-MIMO wireless router is full of surprises when it comes to performance. AC1750 may be the lowest rated 802.11ac specification we have ever looked at here at APH Networks, but according to our tests, the DIR-867 is a real winner in performance at short range and held its own at medium range; only falling behind the AC3150 and AC3200 units at long range. The fact this AC1750 router can compete in the same league as the big boys and even take home a few wins is impressive to say the least. Feature-wise, the D-Link DIR-867 has the basics covered well: A built-in four-port gigabit switch, one gigabit uplink port, and nothing else. This means there is no USB port, but for a $90 router at press time, it is hard to ask for any more. The only thing I wish the DIR-867 was better in is its web configuration interface. It is the same one D-Link uses for all their products, and simply put, they need a major overhaul. Its features and user interface is extremely primitive. The web configuration is generally easy to use, but there are also some strange design decisions that also make it intuitive at times. Linksys and TP-Link both have much more consumer-friendly software with a similar feature set. Unfortunately, the D-Link we are reviewing today is not DD-WRT compatible either, so you are stuck with whatever D-Link give you from the factory. Is this a deal breaker though? I would not say so. Routers are a set-and-forget kind of product, and in aspects where it matters, the D-Link DIR-867 delivers at a very good price.
