Epomaker Luma40 Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

The Epomaker Luma40 is definitely an interesting choice when it comes to mechanical keyboards, given the 40% layout mixed with it being ortholinear. This makes for a different typing experience from the average user, where the keys are slightly off from where you would expect them to be. The Luna40 offers a quality aluminum case that only comes in silver, paired with transparent keycaps. The Kailh White Rain switches performed as expected as a low-profile linear switch. I did personally find the keyboard to be flat both physically and in terms of sound. Inside the case, we have a standard tray mount. The choice of tray mount is good, because it allows the keyboard to stay a lower profile. Epomaker does a good job at applying foam to help dampen noise. The Luma40 uses VIA, which is an amazing software that allows you to rebind keys, change layout, customize lighting settings, setup macros, and save the profile. The lighting effects are quite beautiful, especially with the transparent keycaps. The glow radiates extremely well to a point where I find this keyboard is more of an art piece than a keyboard. The great lighting comes with a caveat of a small battery, not even lasting a day with lights on. I will say, the biggest issue with the Luma40 is how niche a product it is. Being a 40% layout keyboard is already niche enough, but also making it ortholinear is even more niche. The Luma40 itself is a decent product as a whole, but the question is, who is the buyer? At a price of $116 USD at press time, the Epomaker Luma40 is definitely an interesting choice for a very specific type of user.
