Epomaker Magcore 87 Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

Aside from its potentially confusing name, there are very many things to like about the Epomaker Magcore 87. Starting at the top, there is a sturdy aluminum body and backplate. The all-black exterior is contrasted with a small assortment of clear polycarbonate keycaps that add a bit of flavor to a conservative design. Internally, the Epomaker Magcore 87 has plenty of layers to ensure typing noise is tuned to dampen any resonance or pinging sounds you might typically hear in a metal body. This makes the typing noise very pleasant to my ears, even if it is not the deepest of sounds. Longer keys have a slightly deeper sound, but they do not sound hollow or cheap. The innovation with this keyboard is the use of the Kailh Box Induction switches, which feature an analog actuation. There are also excellent features like durable PBT double-shot keycaps and secondary functions for Windows and Mac layouts. Finally, I think Epomaker's other improvement is its software, as they have improved the overall user experience. Users can still work with VIA if they desire, but I found the manufacturer's software very adequate. It also was easy to enable the analog features like dynamic keystroke or multiple trigger functionality. There are still some things to keep in mind when considering Magcore 87. First, this is a very hefty keyboard that you do not want to toss around or travel with. Second, there is no height adjustment, so it is worth trying out first to see if it fits your ergonomics. Finally, the inductive switches result in a notable hit to your wallet. At the time of the review, this retails for $200, which is more than other analog offerings like Hall effect switches. Even so, I think the Epomaker Magcore 87 is built well and should stand the test of time in both its features and design.
