Epomaker Split70 Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

From my testing of the Split70, Epomaker has produced an interestingly designed product with some semblance of ergonomics in mind. As such, most of its features are not too shocking. This 71-key keyboard is built well with its full plastic body and backplate. It has good features like hot-swappable mechanical switches, RGB LED backlighting, volume wheel, and a dedicated column of macro keys. The dye-sublimation PBT keycaps are well made, even if they are not double-shot. The typing feel with the Epomaker Wisteria Linear V2 switches is also a positive aspect. This is further aided by the internal damping layers to create a satisfying feel and sound on each key press. The connectivity and wireless capabilities are good, matching the quoted estimates of 11 hours of continuous use with the backlighting on. The Split70 is compatible with VIA, which is a well-known open-source utility in the keyboard modding world. There are still some things to keep in mind if you are considering the Epomaker Split70. For one, the layout modifications due to the size format include a change in the number row and right-side layout, all of which might affect your daily typing experience. Remapping keys might fix some problems, but you will have to get used to the smaller right Shift key and Delete placement. Secondly, I want a way to prop up the keyboard, both from the back and from the middle in a tent-like way. This will help further in keeping wrists and arms in a neutral position. Even so, I am quite pleased with what Epomaker has made. At the time of the review, the Epomaker Split70 has an MSRP of under $120, but can be had for cheaper during sales events. If you are looking for a compact keyboard with some flexibility in placement without sacrificing the typing sound, the Split70 is a decent option.
