Gigabyte AORUS RGB Memory DDR4-3200 2x8GB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Overclocking and Conclusion

Gigabyte may be a new entrant into the RGB RAM game, let alone the memory segment, but we can see the Gigabyte AORUS RGB Memory DDR4-3200 2x8GB kit goes all out with its design. The shiny silver heatspreaders are just the foundation for the large rainbow lights that diffuse in an attention-grabbing way. In addition, the additional dummy modules may not necessarily be there for capacity or performance, but they definitely fill in your empty slots if you do not have more RAM, and honestly, they really look good too. Of course, it still does provide decent performance, memory clocks, and a lifetime warranty, showing there is a bit of substance beneath the skin. Furthermore, we decided to throw in some overclocking and you can see there is quite a bit of overclocking headroom here. While it is specified at a DDR4-3200 out of the box, I managed to increase this to a DDR4-3600, Prime95 stable, with the timings loosened slightly, as shown in our screenshot above. This represents a sizable 12.5% increase, which is really great. Under the low profile heatspreaders, the SK Hynix chips are doing their job in providing decent performance, though not necessarily class-leading. At retail time, the Gigabyte AORUS RGB Memory DDR4-3200 2x8GB are priced a premium compared to other RGB DDR4-3200 16GB memory kits at a retail price of $170 USD, even if we are talking about four sticks of rainbow LEDs. If you are looking for the eye-candy but do not want to pay to fill all your slots with LEDs, this is a plausible option. However, I think Gigabyte still needs to price this a bit more competitively to really make an impact on their first go of things.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
