New to our battery of SSD benchmarks is the PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. Overall, the Kingston SSDNow UV400's results were fairly poor; being practically completely outclassed by both the OCZ Trion 150 480GB and Crucial MX300 750GB almost across the board. In the first pass, it came up behind the MX300 by about 10MB/s and Trion 150 by about 20MB/s on average. In the second pass, this gap increased to around 20MB/s against the MX300, but reduced to 15MB/s for the Trion 150. In the third pass, it fell behind both drives by about 20MB/s on average across the board.
