While the Neat Skyline is an input solution meant for conferencing calls and working from home, it is clear the Skyline is capable of accomplishing more. Starting from the beginning, the Neat Skyline is a distinct looking microphone with its biscotti-like shape to resemble a modern building. It has a well-built enclosure with a metal mesh at the top and a sturdy plastic exterior. Its simple implementation and setup make the Neat Skyline easy to start using, and the soft large mute button is a nice touch. In terms of performance, it does what you might expect for a teleconferencing microphone, clearly picking up sounds and voices with good range and without distortion. In our tests, it was also very usable for capturing vocals and music instruments like an acoustic guitar with a natural sound. On the other hand, stretching it too far out of its comfort zone may not be ideal, as the Neat Skyline does struggle a bit more with background noise. This is completely understandable considering the purpose of the microphone, but it may be a problem for those in noisier environments, such as gamers who may not want their keyboard and mouse clicks heard while on a voice call. It also struggled a bit more with suppressing plosive sounds, although this can be reduced by moving further away from the microphone. In addition, while the simplicity is a positive, it also means we are lacking some extra physical controls, options for mounting, indicator lighting, or even tilting capabilities on the Skyline. At the current time of the review, the Neat Skyline can be found for around $70 USD, which makes for an affordable but well-functioning microphone.
