I'd just like to make it clear from the start that we are, by no means, expecting Patriot's Supersonic Magnum 64GB to deliver performance competitive with the OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD. The Vertex 2 is a Serial ATA storage device optimized for maximum I/O performance as a boot drive, whereas the Supersonic Magnum, while advertised as a fast USB 3.0 drive, is designed to be a compact removable storage device only. However, our AIDA64 results do provide interesting insight to the performance of the Patriot Supersonic Magnum. Delivering 225.1MB/s sequential read, it is surprisingly close to the Vertex 2's 266.7MB/s; its score of 246.7MB/s in the Random Read section is no laughing matter either. The same goes for its 139.1MB/s Buffered Read result. However, this drive seems to suffer a bit when it comes down to the average access time compared to the SSD; fortunately 0.48ms is still an extremely competitive figure if you look at where hard drives are at.
