ROCCAT Syn Max Air Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

The ROCCAT Syn Max Air has improved in several ways compared to its predecessor. As always, I like the general design concept. There is nothing too flashy about the headset, and it maintains a nice, muted look, while having a bit of style with its RGB LEDs. The aluminum build is quite good, offering a premium feel and build quality. ROCCAT opted to use their Bionic Shell like the Syn Pro Air, making the Syn Max Air about average in terms of weight while using higher quality materials. All of the pads use an PU leather filled with cooling gel-infused memory foam cushioning, providing a comfortable experience. The PU leather offers a much more premium look to the headset. The wireless connectivity is surprisingly good with no noticeable lag and a huge range to the point it covered the majority of my house. With an in-depth analysis of the audio quality, I found it to be quite suitable for gaming. My main issue with the Syn Max Air was the slightly unclean treble, which in itself is not the worst. On the input side, the microphone was quite muffled. It will suffice for day-to-day use, but I would recommend a better dedicated microphone if you want to do more than basic voice communication. It was interesting to see the return of the Swarm software, especially with Neon being in the works for the previous generation. I can understand this return as I experienced a much less buggy experience in my testing, but it feels very outdated as we have mentioned many times here on this website. Lastly, I often found myself readjusting the headband due to the lack of a lock mechanism on the Syn Max Air. At an MSRP of $250 USD, you are paying quite a hefty and premium price for a reasonable weight wireless gaming audio experience. If you are looking for a truly premium and comfortable headset capable of gaming for several hours on end, the ROCCAT Syn Max Air is a good option.
