About ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes. Several options are available to customize your performance measurement including queue depth, overlapped I/O and even a comparison mode with the option to run continuously. Use ATTO Disk Benchmark to test any manufacturers RAID controllers, storage controllers, host adapters, hard drives and SSD drives and notice that ATTO products will consistently provide the highest level of performance to your storage.

Following up next is our usual ATTO read and write tests. ATTO is an often quoted benchmark, because it is easy to use and accurate. For the most part, it is a favorite among reviewers, and I have grown to embrace it as much as the next for the last little while. By varying the file transfer size, you can visually see how each product performs across the curve. In this Hitachi versus Western Digital versus Seagate shootout, it was rather hard to define a clear winner. In small file transfer sizes -- up to 4KB -- the Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB was able to pull a very clear lead over the competition. However, once we move into 8KB and above, the story began to change. In the Write test, the 7,200 RPM Hitachi was clearly the fastest; peaking at approximately 173MB/s -- impressive. The 5,400 RPM Western Digital and 5,900RPM Seagate drive were fundamentally similar; both ending with a peak of approximately 165MB/s. In the Read test, the Hitachi hit peak performance the quickest at the 8KB mark, but the Western Digital quickly caught up, scoring a maximum that actually meets or exceeds the Hitachi at just over 174MB/s at 32KB and above. For an 5,400 RPM drive, that is actually very impressive. The Seagate was not far behind at 166MB/s at the highest point on the curve. Based on these ATTO results, the Hitachi consistently delivered the fastest peak rates, the Seagate had the best small transfer size performance, and the Western Digital Red split the difference between the two.
