The SOUNDPEATS Clip1 is designed to fill the void for those who want music without getting lost in music. From this perspective, there are many reasons why the Clip1 is a worthy choice. Starting at the top, the build quality of the Clip1 is a strong point. It is durable with its light but sturdy N-Flex Arch steel arm that holds the two larger modules to your ear. The mechanism is well-engineered to stay out of the way, even for glasses wearers, while remaining comfortably attached. Other features I appreciate include the IPX5 rating and automatic play/pause detection. In its functionality, the Clip1 provided an acceptable 7-hour battery life per charge, total 35-hour playtime with the case, and strong wireless range. On paper, SOUNDPEATS also supports high-quality LDAC and DynamicEQ for adaptive equalization for any music genre. In use, the SOUNDPEATS Clip1 is a bit more nuanced. On one hand, it was not surprising to see a lack of sub-bass or sound isolation, as this behavior is in line with the design. We also had above average soundstaging and imaging. On the other hand, the Clip1 struggled in the midrange and trebles with lacking detail. This was exacerbated with more complicated music and additional layers. The one truly frustrating thing with the Clip1 is SOUNDPEATS’ PeatsAudio app, which requires an unnecessary amount of setup for something so simple. It has its share of features, but it is locked behind a login for no reason other than to collect your information. I also would like to see something to reject unintentional taps from activating the touch control. At the time of the review, the SOUNDPEATS Clip1 is available for $70, which is reasonable for its capabilities. If you are looking for an inconspicuous way to have music while remaining present in your environment, the SOUNDPEATS Clip1 is worth considering, if you stay away from the mobile app.
