Page 11 - Conclusion
In bringing the Toshiba RC100 to the market, this budget NVMe SSD is no joke: It is compact, power efficient, and for the most part, fast. So, to answer the question we have proposed in the beginning of this review, it looks like Toshiba is being serious with what they have to offer. The RC100 240GB delivers throughput that outperforms any consumer Serial ATA based drive in consumer workloads, and in many cases, rival the performance of some high end PCI Express based drives of the past. Unfortunately, when it comes to heavy workloads like our intense PCMark 8 Storage Consistency test, the RC100 got completely taken out. In fact, in this particular benchmark, it could not even hold its own against some budget SATA drives. The poor performance of the RC100 under intense workloads and when the drive is full is regrettable. Of course, PCMark 8 Storage Consistency is a very extreme test, so keep this in mind. But realistically, for $75 at press time, the Toshiba RC100 240GB is a drive that will deliver generally excellent performance for the price. It is $5 cheaper than the Kingston UV500 240GB (M.2) and $5 more than the Crucial MX500 500GB (We will take a look at the M.2 version in the coming weeks, but the performance is virtually identical as the 2.5" SATA format), making the RC100 a very respectable choice. My only other suggestion is to extend its warranty to five years; its three-year warranty is a bit short.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
