About ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes. Several options are available to customize your performance measurement including queue depth, overlapped I/O and even a comparison mode with the option to run continuously. Use ATTO Disk Benchmark to test any manufacturers RAID controllers, storage controllers, host adapters, hard drives and SSD drives and notice that ATTO products will consistently provide the highest level of performance to your storage.

Following up next is our usual ATTO read and write tests. ATTO is an often-quoted benchmark, because it is easy to use and accurate. For the most part, it is a favorite among reviewers. ATTO uses easily compressible data, so compression-heavy controllers will perform very well here. As manufacturer peak read and write performance ratings are usually achieved using ATTO, whether a drive lives up to its marketing claims or not can be validated by this program. Western Digital claims maximum read and write numbers of 1700MB/s and 1450MB/s, respectively. According to our tests, these numbers were pretty close to what we saw, as our numbers peaked at 1750.666MB/s read and 1469.049MB/s write. In terms of ramp-up, the Western Digital Blue SN500 NVMe SSD 500GB was surprisingly slow at reaching peak speeds for write and even more so for the read test. At the smallest packet sizes up to 2KB, the SN500 was maxing out at just over 7MB/s and only achieved above a hundred MB/s at packets of 4KB and larger. This was not something we had observed in other drives like the Toshiba RC100 or the Gigabyte M.2, though afterwards, the Blue SN500 smoked these two. Compared to the Crucial P1 500GB, the WD Blue SN500 provided better write numbers, while it fell behind in the read test.
