Microsoft Sees a Lot of Enthusiasm with Nokia Partnership

From X-bit Labs: Microsoft Corp. said in its quarterly conference call that that its Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system (OS) was gaining acceptance despite of reports by independent companies. Besides, the software giant pinned a lot of hopes onto the mobile platform in general.

"Windows Phone product reviews are good, customer satisfaction is high, well above 90%. We have shown a clear strategy for enabling a vibrant ecosystem around Windows Phone. [...] While we have enjoyed strong developer support to date with more than 13 000 applications, we have noted even greater developer interest subsequent to the Nokia alliance announcement," said Bill Koefoed, the general manager of investor relations, at a conference call.

According to IDC, however, Nokia's market share (which represents a part of total handset market share) dropped in Q1 2011 to 29.2 from 34.7% during the same period last year.

Microsoft and Nokia hope that their unique market approach - which includes partnership with loads of carriers along with exclusive capabilities in the software in general - will help the team to boost the market share with Windows Phone 7-based systems.
