Valve: Removing Metro Exodus From Steam Is 'Unfair'

From PC Mag: Until yesterday, anyone eager to play first-person shooter Metro Exodus on their gaming rig when it releases on Feb. 15 could pre-order it on Steam. However, that's no longer the case after publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games signed an exclusive launch deal with the Epic Games Store. Valve is understandably not happy about this.

An announcement was made on the Metro Exodus website detailing a partnership between Epic Games and Deep Silver to launch the game through the Epic Games Store. Dr. Klemens Kundratitz, CEO at Deep Silver, explains that "Epic's generous revenue terms are a game changer that will allow publishers to invest more into content creation, or pass on savings to the players. By teaming up with Epic we will be able to invest more into the future of Metro and our ongoing partnership with series developer 4A Games, to the benefit of our Metro fans."

Clearly Epic's 12 percent cut of sales compared to Steam's 30 percent cut was too good to turn down, so the deal was signed. Meanwhile over on Steam a notice has appeared from Valve on the Metro Exodus game page explaining that sales have been discontinued.

The notice goes on to say, "We think the decision to remove the game is unfair to Steam customers, especially after a long pre-sale period. We apologize to Steam customers that were expecting it to be available for sale through the February 15th release date, but we were only recently informed of the decision and given limited time to let everyone know."
