Valve's Index VR Headset Launches in May

From PC Mag: Valve has finally decided to enter the virtual reality hardware market with its first VR headset, which will go by the name of Valve Index.

The new headset was revealed last week, but it was as minimal as they come. We got a single image of the headset with the name clearly visible on the casing and the message "Upgrade your experience." As for when the Index will launch, the dedicated Steam Page also states "May 2019."

As Ars Technica reveals, we've heard rumors Valve was preparing to launch its own VR hardware for a while. Last November, what was thought to be Valve's prototype headset leaked via UploadVR, and the Index revealed last week seems to match that design. If that's the case, then the other details that leaked last year will also likely match.

With that in mind, we should be expecting the Index to have a 135-degree field-of-view (FOV) and it could ship with "Knuckles" controllers and a Half-Life VR game to play, but that title won't be Half-Life 3. If this is the bundle Valve has planned for May, and the price isn't extortionate, it will sell well because of that new Half-Life experience if nothing else.
