Raspberry Pi Official Keyboard and Mouse Launch

From PC Mag: The Raspberry Pi Foundation has today expanded the range of Pi-focused products it offers carrying an "official" tag by launching a keyboard and mouse.

Unlike the Raspberry Pi itself, the keyboard and mouse are manufactured in China as attempts to make them in the UK were thwarted because, as Simon Martin, senior principal engineer, explains "we just couldn't get the logistics to work." However, the keyboard and mouse are designed by Raspberry Pi, and they've ensured the highest quality components are used.

The mouse has three buttons and uses Omron switches for a high-quality click. The weight was adjusted until it felt like it gives "the best response to movement," and the color scheme matches that of the official Pi case. On the base of the mouse you'll find the Raspberry Pi logo.

The keyboard is a 78-key matrix, which mirrors that more typically found on a laptop keyboard. The Foundation believes it managed to get the key feel just right while ensuring no light leaks from the Caps and Num Lock LEDs. It also has "the best USB hub IC we could find" built-in with custom firmware developed by Holtek, a semiconductor firm in Taiwan. The pay-off for that is the keyboard's ability to auto-detect which country it is configured for.
