From PC Mag: Spotify is increasing prices on its subscription plans in the US next month.
The Premium plan will go from $11.99 to $12.99 per month, while the Student plan will go from $5.99 to $6.99. Duo and Family plans will see larger hikes. The Duo plan will cost $18.99 per month, up from $16.99, while the Family plan will cost $21.99 per month, also a $2 increase.
The new prices take effect with February’s billing date, and customers will be notified of the change via email. Spotify says the increase reflects "the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists."
Spotify last raised subscription prices in the US in 2024. It raised prices in most other regions in September with the launch of lossless audio, and a FT report in November suggested that the streamer was planning to bring the hikes to the US early this year.
Between the 2024 and 2026 US price hikes, Spotify has added features like AI playlists, in-app messaging, music videos, and more. It is also testing a feature that lets you control its recommendation algorithm. That comes as founder Daniel Ek stepped down as CEO on Jan. 1 to become executive chairman. Alex Norström and Gustav Söderström are now co-CEOs.
