Page 10 - Overclocking and Conclusion
When I reviewed the Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB back in May, I talked about how blown away I was when I found out they were overclockable. Living in an age where RGB LEDs have become more desirable than actual performance, having RAM that overclocked 11.1% was indeed a shocking statistic, especially when the kit was already specified at DDR4-3000 to begin with. Well, today I got more shock for you. The Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB PC4-24000 4x8GB features sixteen RGB LEDs in eight zones that are controllable via software, and if you are thinking it is just another 2018 marketing tactic taken to the next level, this set has the performance to back it up. In a way even more shocking than Patriot's offering, this quad DIMM package was able to run from DDR4-3000 to DDR4-3466 -- a 15.5% overclock, Prime95 stable -- with a slight relaxation in latencies as shown in our screenshot above. Combined with its low-profile heatspreaders and a cool looking light diffuser to RGB-ify your gaming rig, the Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB PC4-24000 4x8GB truly is the real deal. My only complaint is the RGB management software is very primitive and has a lot of room for improvement. I was not able to test it using motherboard RGB control software, since my motherboard has no native lighting control support. However, it seems many people with such motherboards are reporting major frustrations in compatibility. I guess you gain some and you lose some. For $360 at press time, the Ballistix Tactical Tracer RGB PC4-24000 4x8GB are very reasonably priced DDR4 RAM that comes with a lifetime warranty. And get this -- it is overclockable.
Micron provided this product to APH Networks for the purpose of evaluation.
Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
