While my center brake light did end up getting replaced, enclosure and all, upgrading your storage in your computer is getting both easier and cheaper. Today's Crucial P2 500GB is proof of that, especially when we see it from an affordability stance, while still under a reputable brand like Crucial and a five-year warranty. Obviously, there were some omitted features like the removal of onboard memory to reduce the cost to make these drives. However, the Crucial P2 500GB was not necessarily impacted that much in our battery of tests. In most of the synthetic tests, the Crucial P2 500GB had strong results, especially in ATTO and Crystal Disk Mark. Unfortunately, we also did see some poorer results in more real-world tests, which could be where the inclusion of onboard RAM may have been helpful. However, we saw improvements across the board from the Crucial P1, which was Crucial's first NVMe solution. Not only did our P2 provide better results, but it also had notably better write endurance, which speaks to why manufacturers are still using TLC NAND flash memory in their budget options. Better yet, if we look at the current price of both models, both the P2 and P1 can be found at the same price of $54 USD. This is one of the lowest prices of NVMe SSDs for this capacity, while only being a few dollars more expensive than slower SATA-based options. As such, if you are looking for a wallet-friendly solid state drive that offers good performance and warranty coverage, then the Crucial P2 500GB is a great option.
