About ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes. Several options are available to customize your performance measurement including queue depth, overlapped I/O and even a comparison mode with the option to run continuously. Use ATTO Disk Benchmark to test any manufacturers RAID controllers, storage controllers, host adapters, hard drives and SSD drives and notice that ATTO products will consistently provide the highest level of performance to your storage.

Next on our list is our usual ATTO read and write tests. ATTO is an often-quoted benchmark, because it is easy to use and accurate. For the most part, it is a favorite among reviewers. ATTO uses easily compressible data, so compression-heavy controllers will perform very well here. As manufacturer peak read and write performance ratings are usually achieved using ATTO, whether a drive lives up to its marketing claims or not can be validated by this program. As we read on the first page, Crucial claims maximum read and write numbers of 3400MB/s and 3000MB/s, respectively.

According to our tests, the read speeds peaked at 2989.998MB/s, while the write speeds reached 2816.999MB/s. These are good numbers, ranking fifth in read and eighth in write. Interestingly, we did not reach the quoted manufacturer's maximum numbers in either of the two tests. In addition, these were once again behind the more budget Crucial P2 500GB. In terms of ramp-up, the P5 500GB exhibited a bit of a strange behavior. In both of the write and read tests, we saw notable dips at the medium-to-large packet sizes, which is something we do not usually see when compared to other drives. The ramp-up in smaller packets for writes was solid, with it quickly getting to peak speeds, but notably slower in the read tests. We ran these tests multiple times to remove variances between the tests, but unfortunately, we saw similar results for every run.
