Netac ZX20L 512GB Review (Page 7 of 7)

Page 7 - Conclusion

Is the Netac ZX20L 512GB's interface upgrade enough to convince us to overlook its appearance? In my personal opinion, no. As it was with the ZX10, the ZX20L has major room for improvement in its aesthetics. That said, there are still positives about the aluminum enclosure. It feels solid and exhibited good heat dissipation performance even under my extended load test, so there was no thermal throttling. I also appreciate its generous bundle, where one 30cm long USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable and one 30cm long USB Type-C to USB Type-A cable were included along with a nylon drawstring carrying case. The Netac ZX20L 512GB also delivered decent linear read and write performance for a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 portable SSD. However, workloads beyond linear tests were a bit of a mixed bag, just like its predecessor. Furthermore, despite no thermal throttling, it was hot to touch during operation, where its surface temperature exceeded 50c from my measurements. There is no hardware encryption support or ingress protection rating either. For about $50 at press time, the Netac ZX20L 512GB is competitively priced. There just are not many 500GB-range external SSDs left around anymore, as everyone has moved on to 1TB models and above, so the sample size is not large. All in all, if you are on a tight budget looking for a small capacity, barebones external USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 SSD and you do not mind its looks, the Netac ZX20L 512GB is a product you can consider.
