Page 10 - Conclusion
In general, I am actually very impressed by the OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500 2x1GB kit. The performance is truly excellent -- of course, you can definitely argue that PC2-8500 RAM will obviously burn all the other PC2-6400 RAM used in our benchmarks. However, take this into consideration: Since Core 2 CPUs do take advantage of the extra memory bandwidth despite the fact that the RAM runs twice as fast as the CPU FSB, buying PC2-8500 memory might be well worth your performance investment. Especially when it comes to overclocking.
Secondly, price is another factor. With recent DDR2 price drops, the Reaper HPC PC2-8500 goes for roughly around $150 at major online retailers at time of reviewing. It costs a little more than PC2-6400 in the same category, but majority of the people can bring these memory to PC2-9200 speed within warranty covered voltages, thanks to the excellent Micron D9 ICs used.
The unique heatpipe design used is surprisingly thin and light -- and takes good advantage of natural airflow put forth by CPU heatsinks with a perpendicular fan implementation. Full circuit closed system allows RAM installation up/down or down/up for great compatibility with all motherboards.
Combined with OCZ's excellent service, warranty, and quality -- don't forget the competitive price and performance -- the OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500 2x1GB DDR2 RAM set is well worth your investment. Oh yeah, and overclocking -- to an extent. I mean, if it was capable of overclocking just a little more... just a little more. But there's just too many good things to say about this set of RAM. In general, if you are looking for high performance DDR2 memory at an affordable price, look no further than the OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500.
Special thanks to Andy over at OCZ for making this review possible.
Starting from April 30, 2007, Number Ratings has been dropped for motherboards, RAM, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings reflected without the limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.

The OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500 rocks in almost every category. Price, performance, overclocking, design and cooling implementation... you name it! Of course, it can be overclocked just a little more, but hey -- how much more could you possibly expect from RAM already running at PC2-8500 for this price? So far, I am not disappointed.
