About AIDA64 Engineer

AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016.

Since our storage review benchmark results are presented in alphabetical order, first up on the list are results from one of our favorite benchmarking programs, AIDA64 Engineer. Just to note, AIDA64 Engineer is a full synthetic benchmark. Unlike full synthetic motor oil, this usually does not always carry a good connotation. While it is not a representation of real life performance (Such as how fast you can copy movies to your drive), it does provide valuable insight into performance variation between drives from different manufacturers. As you can see in our graphs above, the latest 7,200 RPM Seagate IronWolf ST10000VN0004 10TB delivered top notch performance in the linear read segment; posting some of the fastest rates on the board. It clocked in at 239.3MB/s in the beginning of the drive, 200.1MB/s in the middle, and finishing with 111.0MB/s in the end. This was marginally faster than the Seagate Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD V.5 ST8000NM0055 8TB as well as the NAS HDD 8TB. The WD Black 6TB reported 227.3MB/s, 180.1MB/s, and 102.1MB/s, in that order. This means the IronWolf 10TB was faster than the Black 6TB, which makes sense, considering the Seagate we are testing today has much higher areal density. Its 14.4ms random access time was an improvement over the NAS HDD 8TB, but still no match for WD Black's 11.45ms and Enterprise Capacity 3.5 HDD V.5's 11.58ms.
