HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Taking a peek at HD Tach, we can see another side of a similar story to the Silicon Power Jewel J80 32GB. HD Tach is what we would call a "drag-race" approach to evaluating performance. While this may not necessarily be reflective of day-to-day usage, this test still provides insightful results for comparing against other drives. Taking a look at the graph, we can see the line trends flat, despite the many blips. Speeds vary around 100 to 120MB/s, but the average read speed comes to 109MB/s. This result is once again pretty slow in comparison to our other Silicon Power drives, which is kind of disappointing. The burst speed comes out to 101.5MB/s, and the average latency is around 0.4ms.
