Silverstone AP142-ARGB and AP124-ARGB Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

RGB has really taken off in every single corner of the PC market. These SilverStone fans add to the RGB craze. The addressable RGB feature -- the ability of them being able to connect directly to a motherboard and configure all the colors in that way -- is a great addition. As well, being able to fully customize the individual LEDs also adds to the fun. However, it does mean you need the specific hardware before you can actually change the LEDs on the fans. Using a control box can limit the ways you can customize the RGB settings. The remote itself only has a few options and not much else can be accomplished outside of it. However, there are few implementations short of software to be able to effectively control the full extent of the RGB LEDs. In some ways, addressable RGB is mostly a step forward in my opinion. But these are just the aesthetics. The rest of the fan is quite impressive. The build quality is great with the double ball bearing design, which will last for many many years. SilverStone's Air Penetrator design also ensures the airflow is efficient and effective. My only complaint is the fan cable is a bit short, but an extension is included from the factory. Throughout our tests, the Silverstone AP142-ARGB and AP124-ARGB were put to the test and definitely performed well. Not only did the tests demonstrate how good the fans move air, but also how little noise they make. If you are looking for something that looks good and performs well, then these fans will not disappoint. You do pay for the extra addressable RGB features. The SilverStone AP142-ARGB comes in at about $40 USD, while the AP124-ARGB is $35 USD. The prices are not chump change, but fair considering the RGB functionality and build quality of the fans. Needless to say, SilverStone has developed two excellent fans for enthusiasts.
