Page 4 - Conclusion
Does the SilverStone TS16 provide a reasonable solution to needing an external device for your SSD? To start with, the TS16 uses a strong aluminum build. The docking station is small and compact, taking up very little space when placed on top of your PC. It is also made in an unobtrusive way so not to interfere with any cooling solution that might already be on your SSD, such as a heatsink. Small details such as marking the different drive lengths are nice for fitting any SSD you wish to attach. The rubber stops are useful for keep your drive in place while also being easy to remove without needing a screwdriver. The LED indication light is a nice touch that makes it clear as to what the docking station is doing. When it came to our tests, the Patriot P400 1TB was able to reach data transfer speeds that came close to the maximum throughput of USB 3.2 Gen 2. Both the ATTO Disk Benchmark and Crystal Disk Mark tests proved this to be true. If there is one improvement I would suggest, it would be to add some sort of cooling solution in the docking station to help with thermal performance, while still keeping the drive easy to quickly move in and out. It also would not hurt to see the USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface used for 20Gbps speeds. For a retail price of $46 as of the time of writing, it is fair to say the SilverStone TS16 is an acceptable docking station for those looking to access an additional M.2 SSD in a pinch.
