Thermaltake Max 5G Review (Page 4 of 4)

Page 4 - Conclusion

What happens when you wrap your hard drive in bacon? Well, you make it greasy. Therefore, I'd like to suggest you put it into the Thermaltake Max 5G instead, so you can not only use the hard drive over its speedy USB 3.0 connection, but to also keep it nice and cool with two 80mm fans. Nobody believed me when I say the fans are pretty much dead silent, but honestly, it is as quiet as frozen bacon. Everyone here at APH Networks are surprised as well. The features of the Max 5G are well thought out as well, and the ability to turn off its fans' LED lights makes it a wonderful addition to your external storage needs. Furthermore, the enclosure is obviously designed for simple installation, but usage of the hex socket head screws really dampens this whole process for me. Down the road, I know it will haunt me, as I tend to lose things over the years. The plastic clips and cover are misleadingly weak, because in actual fact, they have proven to be fairly durable. The ASMedia SATA to USB 3.0 bridge means you will be able to achieve up to SSD speeds over a USB cable without any worries. Carrying a $64.99 USD MSRP, and retailing for as low as $50 at press time, it is certainly on the higher end for external enclosures. Try to keep in mind this is really more of a performance orientated product at the leading edge of technology. If you are looking for something more economical, the Silver River II is probably a better choice. In the end, I might have somehow gotten a unique enclosure, but all I can say is if you like the smell of bacon, the Thermaltake Max 5G is for you.
