PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test is one of our favorite benchmarks. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. Overall, the Western Digital Black SN750 NVMe SSD 1TB was excellent. The results were virtually identical to its predecessor, so I did not generate a comparison graph above. It did not completely dominate this test against its peers; the OCZ RD400A 512GB remains to be the winner by being about 10% faster than the Black SN750 1TB on average. That said, the Black SN750 was about 23% faster on average than the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB, which was quite impressive. Just for fun, I compared the Black SN750 against a budget NVMe drive, the Crucial P1 1TB, where the WD Black SN750 was, on average, 189% faster.
