About HD Tune Pro 5.70

HD Tune Pro is a hard disk / SSD utility with many functions. It can be used to measure the drive's performance, scan for errors, check the health status (S.M.A.R.T.), securely erase all data and much more.

After giving the XPG Atom 30 1TB a clean format and ensuring everything is correct, I fired it up for some testing in HD Tune Pro. HD Tune is more of a drag race than a clear indication of real-life performance. That said, it is an excellent storage performance reference among SSDs with the same controller, and has been our favorite benchmark long before hard drives even cracked the 50MB/s mark. Unfortunately, HD Tune Pro does not generate any fancy independent graph outputs in particular, so I just took a screenshot of the program. The XPG Atom 30 1TB's throughput remained relatively flat on average, with only a dip at the very beginning of the test. Otherwise, the recorded access time matched up with what we saw from our other benchmark results. The Atom 30 1TB posted an average of 1639.2 MB/s for its sequential read speed, which was surprisingly faster than the WD Blue SN570 and SN550.

We also fully formatted the ADATA SU670 Ultimate 250GB to ensure everything was correct before running it in HD Tune Pro. Once again, its throughput remained flat and consistent, which is great to see. The SU670 Ultimate posted an average speed of 430.3MB/s. While these results were lower than other benchmark numbers, this aligns with how we have seen other drives perform. In comparison to its competition, the SU670 Ultimate was faster than the Lexar NQ100, but slower than the Patriot P200. It was also faster than the Gigabyte UD Pro. On the other hand, its access time aligned with our other benchmarks, which confirms its significantly slower time. At the end of the day, HD Tune may not be the best test for solid state drives, but these results are always interesting to look at.
