Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB Review

I recently read a prompt that asked me what I would tell my previous self on the day after graduating kindergarten, and it made me think. I could share about all the successes and struggles I would face in the years to follow, whether in school, with family, relationships, or careers. But as easy as it would be to tell my former self to avoid or pursue certain things, this suddenly aware boy would run into a separate set of issues that present Aaron would not account for. Instead, it made sense to talk about this kid's character rather than foretelling the future. I would start by telling him to be more open and friendly with those around him, even if he did not like them. I would also tell him not to worry so much and to be okay with who he is. This question made me reflect on what I have learned or am still learning over the years. It also made me wonder how I could alter my life to choose a different path, but that is a different story. In a similar vein, I wonder what companies have learned and changed since their inception. If they have this opportunity, would they want to share any insights or wisdom to their initial start? For example, Patriot has been in the memory business for quite a while, and we have seen kits from them since 2008 in the form of their Extreme Performance DDR3. Since these simpler times, many things have changed, but we have always found Patriot to make solid and reliable memory kits. Today, we have Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB, which is a set of their most recent offerings. Does this memory kit reflect the things Patriot has learned over the years? Let us read on to find out!

Today's review unit of the Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB kit arrived from Patriot's offices out in Fremont, California. Traveling with UPS and their Expedited service, this box arrived at our APH Networks location here in Calgary, Alberta in excellent condition. The corrugated brown cardboard box had no signs of wear or tear on the container to be concerned about. Inside, Patriot has packed both the Viper Elite 5 and the Viper Venom RGB.

While both memory kits hail from the Patriot Viper gaming brand, the Elite 5 takes a cleaner approach, at least from the retail container. The box still has the same Patriot Viper logo on the top corner, but the rest of the graphics are very plain. This includes the plain gray background, and the black font used throughout. In the middle is a scaled down image of memory modules inside. The bottom says "Elite 5 DDR5 Memory". On the top right corner, there is a label that includes the capacity, configuration, and transfer rate. This is the non-RGB version, but a variant with RGB LED lighting is also available.

Before we continue, I have grabbed the features and specifications from the manufacturer's website for your viewing pleasure:

Out of the box, you will see the kit of Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB packaged in its own compartment in a transparent plastic clamshell. Unfortunately, we have no Viper Gaming sticker, although I can forgive this omission. There is nothing else included with this kit of memory, and I would be more surprised if we got something else.

A screenshot of the memory tab in CPU-Z with Patriot's Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB installed. The SPD timings table in CPU-Z reads standard JEDEC specifications programmed into the memory as well as XMP data for running the memory at various speeds. Our ASUS ProArt X870E-Creator WiFi motherboard used for testing had no issues detecting and working with the Viper Elite 5 RAM right out of the box using the latest BIOS revision. The Patriot Viper Elite 5 DDR5-6400 2x16GB retails for approximately $80 at press time.
