From PC Mag: Apple is reportedly planning on launching two different versions of its fourth-generation AirPods this fall. One model is expected to offer basic functionality but be affordably priced. A more expensive model will offer active noise cancellation and is rumored to replace the current third-generation model in the lineup, according to Bloomberg.
Part of the decision to replace the AirPods 3 in the lineup has to do with its charging case. The charging case for the AirPods 3 features a Lightning port, while Apple’s lineup is transitioning to USB-C, starting with the second-gen AirPods Pro.
Beyond the case upgrade, the AirPods are is expected to get new firmware that will add new head gesture controls as well as improved noise isolation. Spatial Audio features all likely be shared with both models, and both will also likely offer Apple Watch charging via the AirPods case.
The new AirPods are expected to be announced at an Apple event next month, along with new versions of the iPhone and iPad.
While we don’t know exactly what Apple has in store for the iPhone 16 we’ve already seen a lot of rumors about the device. Namely, the camera is rumored to be getting updated with two vertically stacked lenses with the flash next to them, and the phones are expected to get increased RAM and Storage Capacity, and A18 chips. Both Pro models are also expected to get a tetra prism lens. Apple also might launch a new “Ultra” branded device that is rumored to replace the iPhone Pro Max.
