From PC Mag: Sonos is refocusing on the core of its business after a tumultuous 12 months, including the disastrous rollout of its buggy app in May 2024. Part of that refocus appears to be the end of its partnership with Ikea where it had inventive ways of hiding speaker tech in everyday furniture items.
The Symfonisk range sold by Ikea was made in tandem with Sonos and appeared to work well for both brands since it was introduced in 2019. The two companies made products such as speakers built into lamps and picture frames, as well as speakers designed specifically to sit on bookshelves. PCMag gave two of these products four star reviews, citing stylish designs and strong audio performance.
Sonos confirmed the news to The Verge saying it won’t make any future products in its Symfonisk lineup. Ikea will continue to sell through the existing stock, but it doesn’t have any plans to produce any further products. If you’ve been eyeing a Symfonisk speaker, you’ll want to act quickly to ensure you can buy it.
A spokesperson from Sonos told The Verge, “Although our work together has largely wound down and we won’t be releasing new products as partners, we’ll continue to support every existing Symfonisk product so customers can keep enjoying great sound in their homes for many years to come.”
