Crucial P310 2280 2TB (Heatsink Version) Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Conclusion

Our Crucial P310 2280 2TB with heatsink may have a familiarity in name, and from our evaluations and results, it is clear there is something recognizable about its performance too. Our top trim version today comes with a thick metal heatsink on top to help with controlling thermals. In our testing, the synthetic tests revealed the P310 2280 2TB can be a decent option with good, but not great, sequential reads and writes. Rather, it often sat in the middle of our results. It also performed as expected in real-world simulation tests like PCMark and 3DMark, showing its capability in standard use cases like launching applications and file transfers. More complicated workloads like PassMark's Advanced Disk Tests showed the P310 was more capable than other QLC-based SSDs like the Kingston NV3. We did not observe any thermal throttling during our review, although this was the case with the other P310 variants as well. Finally, we do have a bit of assurance with a standard five-year warranty, which is longer than some other budget-friendly options. On the other hand, there are some things that show P310's inexpensive nature. For one, under the hood is the same Phison E27T controller in a DRAM-less configuration and paired with quad-level cell flash memory. This means that you might see potential slowdowns in medium workloads. This was notable in Crystal Disk Mark's random 4K results. Worse yet, its write endurance of 440TBW for the 2TB capacity is uninspiring. At the time of the review, the heatsink version of this drive is $138, which represents a $12 increase over the non-heatsink full-size version. Whichever option you choose, the P310 2280 2TB is still a worthy wallet-conscious choice for those wanting a secondary drive without breaking the bank.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.

The Crucial P310 2280 2TB with heatsink is the same wallet-friendly NVMe SSD that delivers solid sequential read and write numbers, but there is room for improvement in its medium workload performance and write endurance.
