Crucial X10 Pro 2TB Review (Page 7 of 7)

Page 7 - Conclusion

It looks like the Crucial X10 Pro 2TB is everything that someone like a videographer or photographer would want to complement their workflow. But is what it appears to be backed by reality? To start, I like its lightweight and modern appearance while in a much more compact form factor compared to the Crucial X8 2TB. At the same time, the X10 Pro's build quality is still excellent with its cool-to-touch aluminum enclosure that flexes to nothing. I also like the fact it is IP55 certified for water, dust, and sand resistance, which is something the previous flagship portable SSD from the company did not have. Its native 256‐bit AES hardware encryption with password protection is also a welcomed feature if you want to reduce the risk of compromised access should the drive become lost or stolen. Its large storage capacity is made accessible by fast linear read and write performance that is consistent with other flagship USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 drives. There are a couple of areas that can see improvement. For one, in IOPS-intensive tests, it is about the same as, if not a little slower, than other performance portable SSDs we have tested in the past. This is not to say it is not fast, but it will not leave USB 3.2 Gen 1 or Gen 2 drives behind. So if you are working with lots of small files, you will not save any time. Second, the included USB Type-C to Type-C cable is a bit short. It is sufficient if you are working with a laptop, but if you have a desktop system, a longer cable is preferred. The Crucial X10 Pro 2TB does not have a lot of competition in its capacity and performance category. For about $210 at press time, this is a niche product, but if you feel the need for speed in a portable USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 SSD, the Crucial X10 Pro is one of the best money can buy.
