Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG Review (Page 2 of 4)

Page 2 - Physical Look - Outside

When you compare the Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG with its predecessor, the Focus G, there are definitely callbacks to the original with some modernizations in this new one. Things that remain the same include its full airflow-focused front in the form of a large mesh opening here. The airflow top exhaust area also remains here. In addition, some more subtle notes include the hexagonal bottom, although this extends to all around the top as well. The front I/O still remains at the top of the enclosure too. However, all the modernizations are clearly displayed from the front. The full mesh front removes any notion of a 5.25" drive, the side panel utilizes a full tempered glass panel instead of acrylic, and the top is now given a magnetic mesh filter to ensure dust does not come through here. I really appreciate the front mesh panel, as it definitely allows for air to come through while also providing a bit of filtration from larger particles of dust. It also keeps a clean design overall. Keep in mind the front mesh panel will not filter as much dust as a real dust filter. As we have already mentioned, we have the white tempered glass version, but the colors here are a mix of white and black. The whole enclosure is made up of steel with the tempered glass panel side window. Overall, you can really see the modernization in its cleaner looks and design, but still keeping the functional airflow abilities.

This enclosure is a mid-tower case and its overall dimensions are somewhat compact. With overall dimensions of 471.5mm deep, 215mm wide, and 450.5mm tall, this is relatively compact. Compared to some other cases in the Fractal Design lineup, the Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG is wider but shorter than the Meshify 2 Compact by a small margin, and notably smaller than the premium Define 7. As a whole, the Focus 2 RGB White TG weighs in at 6.4kg, which is quite light for a case of this size. If you get the solid panel variant, the weight goes down to 6.1kg.

On the top of the Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG, you will find all of the typical user-facing inputs and outputs. From the rightmost side of the photo, we have a thin black power button that glows with an RGB light underneath to indicate power status. This RGB light is synchronized with the rest of the front fans. Next, we have a small circular button to control the RGB lighting on the front fans and the aforementioned power button. Alternatively, you can bypass this by connecting the lighting to an internal 3-pin addressable RGB header on your motherboard. As for inputs, we have two 3.5mm audio jacks for headphone and microphone, followed by two USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports. Finally, we have a cutout and cover for a USB Type-C port, but no port itself. This is a $10 extra to purchase separately. While I can understand that those on a budget may not be looking for this, I wish they just included it with the stock configuration. Otherwise, you will also see the ventilation area at the top covered by a black mesh that attaches with magnets and sits over the top fan mounting positions. This makes the mesh easy to remove and clean.

Flipping to the back of the Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG, you will see the typical elements of a mid-tower case. At the top, we have a grille area with slats to install a single 120mm fan, although it is currently unoccupied at stock configuration. Next, we have a rectangular cutout for the motherboard I/O to sit in. Underneath, we have seven expansion slots, each with a perforated screw-in plate. At the bottom, we have an opening for a standard ATX-sized power supply. Otherwise, the right-side panel can be seen here and it is made up of the same white steel as the rest of the enclosure.

Underneath, we have a typical layout on the Fractal Design Focus 2 RGB White TG. Four feet can be seen with a rubber circular pad in the middle of each foot. This prevents vibration between the chassis and whatever surface it is sitting on. In between all of the back two feet, we have a mesh filter with a plastic frame for the power supply air supply. This ensures less dust gets in your power supply. It can be removed from the back side for cleaning. Otherwise, a label with its serial number can be found closer to the front.
