When assembling a computer setup for activities such as work, gaming, or just general web browsing, I have historically neglected to pay attention to the keyboard, often too willing to label it as an "anything will do" sort of product. In the last several months, this has changed as I have started using keyboards of higher quality, and I have come to a different opinion concerning the humble keyboard. I now consider the keyboard to be a critical component of an enjoyable computer experience, as it serves as the physical interface between you and your computer. While I still do believe that "anything will do" in a pinch, I also believe that a quality keyboard will punch above its weight in elevating your digital experience. It is with this newfound perspective on keyboards that I approach the Keychron K2 HE. Keychron has established itself as one of the most recognizable names in the enthusiast space since its launch in 2017, building a reputation for producing well-rounded keyboards that bridge the gap between Mac and Windows users, offering a blend of premium build quality and accessible pricing. Will the K2 HE under review today continue with this tradition? Read on to find out!

Today’s review unit of the Keychron K2 HE arrived from Keychron Electronics, located in Shunde, Guangdong, China, shipped via DHL and delivered to our APH Networks location in Calgary, Alberta. The package arrived in good condition, wrapped in a layer of packing bubbles, and then further secured within a poly mailer and red packing tape. The keyboard box itself had some minor cosmetic denting on the corners, but nothing further, and the product itself arrived perfectly unscathed.

The retail box of the Keychron K2 HE is sleek and professional. It consists of a cardboard sleeve with all the expected images and information and a well-fitting two-piece box. Starting with the outer sleeve, the front is dominated by an image of the K2 HE with iridescent lettering and a circular graphic in the corner listing the included switch variant. The top and bottom sides of the sleeve continue with the same metallic lettering, with a sticker on the bottom listing the specific model and materials of the individual keyboard within. The back of the sleeve is filled with information about the polling rate, switch technology, design layout, OS compatibility, web app, pairing ability, stabilizers, and lighting effects. The box itself is minimalist and completely black with the exception of a lustrous Keychron logo in the center and Keychron branding on the sides. The packaging overall struck a good balance. The initial sleeve covered basic information and features, while the tastefully minimalist box imparted a sense of weight and importance to the actual unboxing.
Before we continue, I have taken the following specifications from the manufacturer's website:

The K2 HE is available in two editions. The Special Edition comes in white or black and features an aluminum and rosewood frame with non-shine-through OSA profile keycaps. The Standard Edition is available in black only, omits the wood trimming, and ships with shine-through Cherry profile keycaps instead. The unit under review today is the White Special Edition.
Immediately out of the box, there is a dense foam layer and some documentation. The K2 HE is nestled securely in a foam insert and sleeved in a soft to the touch, semi-opaque plastic sleeve for further protection. Also secured in this foam is a black cardboard box containing all the included extras. The box contains a 4-foot braided Type-A to Type-C cable, Type-A 2.4GHz receiver, USB Type-A to USB Type-C extension adapter for the receiver, keycap and switch puller, magnetic screwdriver, hex key, and alternate keycaps for Windows or alternate color preferences. The included user manual covers setup information, features, proper use, and warnings.
