The Keychron K2 HE is a compelling product that succeeds in merging enthusiast-level keyboard features with a premium, understated aesthetic. The Special Edition's combination of an aluminum and rosewood frame, double-shot PBT keycaps, Hall effect switches, and a 4000mAh battery gives this keyboard a well-rounded spec sheet that is impressive at this price point. The advanced customization, programmable feature list, four-layer acoustic dampening, screw-in stabilizers, and QMK and VIA compatibility further strengthen its position. The strongest attributes of the K2 HE are its build quality, the extent of the Hall effect customization and features, and its emphasis on repairability and compatibility. From my personal usage, I also enjoyed the multi-device pairing ability, the minimal branding, and the three device profiles. Its tested 28 hour runtime is also pretty good. There are, however, some limitations a potential buyer should be aware of. Firstly, the Special Edition keycaps are not shine-through, although this is available with the Standard Edition. Secondly, the Keychron K2 HE is only compatible with Gateron Double-Rail switches. At the time of this review, the Keychron K2 HE Special Edition is available on the Keychron website in both black and white for $140, and the standard version is available for $130. For a Hall effect keyboard of this caliber, the K2 HE Special Edition is priced competitively, making it an accessible entry point into the higher end of the market.
