Page 8 - Conclusion
As we become older, we learn to be more responsible. We learn to be responsible for ourselves. We learn to be responsible for other people. In the digital world, being responsible for yourself -- as well as the people around you -- is not just about not losing your expensive electronics. Sure, making sure your laptop comes home the way it left it is very important, but no matter how careful you are, mistakes do happen. And when mistakes do happen, it is important to understand your data has much more value than your electronics. Hardware can always be replaced, but data that lands in the wrong hands can go very, very wrong. This is where the Kingston DataTraveler Locker+ G3 32GB comes in the picture. The way I see it, it is an absolutely brilliant product that even I almost had trouble finding fault in. Firstly, its slick metal construction in conjunction with good looks in a compact package makes it a solid flash drive; both figuratively and literally. Secondly, Kingston gave it some substantial hardware upgrade, and the Locker+ G3 delivers some seriously awesome performance. Its IOPS capabilities over USB 3.0 -- especially in write speed -- is second to none. You would expect numbers to drop like a ball because this is an encrypted drive, but Kingston almost defies logic to a point where it is almost unbelievable. Can it be faster? Yes, but almost everything can be faster. Thirdly, it is very user friendly. Complicated encryption schemes can happen under the hood, but to the end user, it is as simple as entering a password. So where can I see improvement? To nitpick a bit, I would say having a blinking LED rather than a flashing LED will be a better choice. Also, having an antivirus version like the DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 32GB will be a big plus. Seriously though -- for $40 at press time, with every meaningful metric in consideration, the Locker+ G3 is the USB flash drive to buy in 2014.
