The overclocking part is nothing too exciting -- so to save some time, I will quickly cover it before moving onto the meat of the conclusion. In short, the only thing you can change is tighten the latencies from 9-9-9-27 to 9-9-9-24. Other than that, there is not enough headroom to take it one step up to DDR3-1866 at 1.65V. With that in mind, does the Kingston HyperX brand still hold a special place in my heart as a signature of elite performance and quality? I will be absolutely honest with you. With regards to performance, it is pretty much what you would expect for DDR3-1600 9-9-9-27 RAM; and with very limited overclocking headroom, I don't think there is much more you can expect, either. As far as quality is concerned, I know many people who swear by Kingston memory, not only because of Kingston's track record of awesome reliability -- but also the excellent lifetime warranty it comes with. At the end of the day, what you will get with Kingston's HyperX KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX 2x4GB DDR3 kit is nothing particularly extraordinary if you look at performance by itself, but it is in fact made extraordinary by the quality and warranty in comes with. If the looks of its beautiful low profile heatspreaders are something that captures your heart, then this kit is made for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for something a little bit more unique, G.SKILL is willing to sell you their Sniper DDR3-1600 1.25V 8GB kit for roughly the same price at press time. It runs at a lower voltage, overclocks better at 1.65V, and comes with a lifetime warranty as well.
