Page 10 - Conclusion
I think the issue with our OCZ Vertex 4 256GB is not a lack of a star front and center to lead the play; it is the lack of proper recognition of talent that kept it from shining through in our review today. The fact is, the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB uses a controller that has a completely different design compared to almost everything we have tested in the past, and our particular battery of benchmarking software does not necessarily recognize the Everest 2's potential. As the SandForce SF-2281 compresses data before writing it to memory, this Indilinx controller does not; real life performance gains will be very noticeable when you deal with files that are already compressed out of the box. The thing is, even without the intrinsic benefits afforded by that particular design, our OCZ Vertex 4 still managed to keep up in many of our read and write tests, and this is very impressive. However, the best part of the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB is its unmatched IOPS capabilities in my opinion. While sequential read/write tests results are very good, do keep in mind your computer's responsiveness and program load speed (Especially when you are multitasking) is highly dependent on how many input/output operations your SSD can do per second. The fact is, if you hold a stopwatch to the computer screen, Windows loads faster on the OCZ Vertex 4 256GB than the OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 240GB, and so does programs like Adobe Photoshop. At the end of the day, if you want to know how fast the OCZ Vertex 4 is, you just have to appreciate its potential in places where it is important -- real life usage. It'll be nice if it benchmarked better though, haha.

APH:Renewal Award
Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.
