Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Overclocking and Conclusion

Being in the technology review industry for over ten years, I have witnessed the progression from having computer hardware that were actually exciting to review because of performance to a competition on who can make the most products with RGB LEDs. There was a time when RAM could be overclocked more than 25%. In the last little while, in the midst of all the RGB LEDs, I could hardly find a kit that overclocked at all. I think I have just come to accept this reality that I almost wrote a paragraph on how the Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB were not overclockable before I even tried overclocking it. But when I actually dropped into my BIOS to tinker with some settings, I began to realize the Viper LEDs were no ordinary RAM. In fact, with a bit of timing adjustments, I was able to hit DDR4-3333 from DDR4-3000 stable, as shown in our screenshot above. Wait, what? Did we just find some RAM that could be overclocked? Yes, my friends, we did. The Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB are overclockable. I am a little blown away right now. For $180 at press time, the Viper LEDs are competitively priced and comes with the company's lifetime warranty, too. As an added bonus, you get a fancy headspreader with red LEDs for some extra eye candy. The downside of it is you cannot turn them off, they do not have any lighting effects, and of course, they are not RGB. But get this, guys. You can overclock them. This is what being a computer enthusiast is all about. If you are the kind of person who tunes your PC for maximum performance, party like it is 2008, because the Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB is the RAM to buy.

APH:Renewal Award
Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.

The Patriot Viper LED PC4-24000 2x8GB's highlight could be its red LEDs or competitive price, but the real distinction is it touches the heart of the true enthusiast with its overclocking potential.
