About HD Tach 3.0.1.0
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Now, it is the time for good old HD Tach. While HD Tach is more of a 'drag race' than a clear indication of real life performance, and has been around for a really long time, it is an excellent storage performance reference between hard drives for more than the last decade. Back in the days, if your average speed exceeded 60MB/s, you had a seriously fast drive. Where does the Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB come in? With an average read speed of 177.9MB/s, and tested random access time of 12.8ms, this was really good. There really is not much you can do to make it faster, other than caching techniques, which was not tested by this program. Compared to the Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB, the Desktop SSHD managed to outperform its corporate cousin in both average read speed (166.8MB/s) and average access time (14.9ms).
