PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test is one of our favorite benchmarks. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of a SSD's true capabilities. First, I compared it against the Western Digital Black SN750 1TB in the same performance class, where the latter was about 4% faster on average. Next, I compared the FireCuda 510 against the Viper VPN100, resulting in the Viper VPN100 slower by about 11% on average. Lastly, the SX8200 Pro turned out to be about 15% slower than the FireCuda 510 on average. Overall, the Seagate FireCuda 510 1TB's performance in this benchmark was excellent.
