About AIDA64 Engineer

AIDA64 Engineer has a hardware detection engine unrivaled in its class. It provides detailed information about installed software and offers diagnostic functions and support for overclocking. As it is monitoring sensors in real time, it can gather accurate voltage, temperature and fan speed readings, while its diagnostic functions help detect and prevent hardware issues. It also offers a couple of benchmarks for measuring the performance of individual hardware components or the whole system. It is compatible with all 32-bit and 64-bit Windows editions, including Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2.

Since our storage review benchmark results are presented in alphabetical order, first up on the list are results from one of our favorite benchmarking programs, AIDA64 Engineer. Just to note, AIDA64 Engineer is a full synthetic benchmark. Unlike full synthetic motor oil, this usually does not always carry a good connotation. While it is not a representation of real life performance (Such as how fast Photoshop opens), it does provide valuable insight into performance between different drives and different controllers, especially since we have a bunch of hard drives and one SSD to compare against our hybrid drive today. As you can see in our graphs above, the Seagate Laptop SSHD ST500LM000 500GB had a pretty interesting performance signature. I did multiple runs on this drive, and it did not make a difference, so I kept them as one set of results. In the Linear Read section, the Laptop SSHD started off at 108.1MB/s, dropped to 87.7MB/s in the middle, and went back up to 106.4MB/s in the end. At first, I was a bit perplexed as to why the end of the drive would be faster than the middle, but HD Tach and HD Tune's performance graphs will show us why later on in this review. For the rest of the charts, the 5,400RPM ST500LM000 is much closer to being an HDD than SSD without caching, as expected.
