Comparison motherboards:
- abit AB9-Pro (Intel P965 + ICH8R)
- Asus P5W64-WS Professional (Intel i975X + ICH7R)

CPU-Z Screenshot of CPU and motherboard information.

Note that the Asus motherboard is a workstation class product and retails for nearly twice as much as the AB9-Pro, so keep in mind that it is not exactly comparing apples to apples. Also, in FSB/CPU Clock affected benchmarks, results within a couple percent (2%) is theoretically identical as a motherboard setting the FSB to 267 versus 266 will give one a performance advantage. The Asus P5W64-WS Professional sets the FSB to 267MHz despite the fact with specified 266MHz in the BIOS; while the abit AB9-Pro gives 266MHz the way we specified 266MHz. Since these tests were ran multiple times to confirm results, we would still consider one as faster on paper.

In PCMark05, the Asus P5W64-WS Professional had a small performance advantage over abit's AB9-Pro motherboard. The only difference is in the graphics area, where AB9-Pro had a few point advantage as confirmed in our 3DMark06 test.

In 3DMark06 running on all stock settings except for resolution (It has been lowered to 1024x768), the abit again outperformed the Asus board in the graphics segment (Overall score). This on-paper difference is portrayed in the graphics test in PCMark05 developed by Futuremark Corporation as well.
