Cooler Master MM731 Review

It is not surprising to say that as you grow up, you often become more set in your ways. The funny thing is that it can easily be observable in others, but not as much in yourself. I think a lot of us want to think that we are flexible and able to adapt, but the fact is that it is harder the longer you have lived as you are less likely to change. Personally, I think I have seen some ways that I have become more rigid, but I also think I can change my habits. For example, I recently purchased an iPad because my girlfriend showed me how much fun it can be to draw, or at least watch things "on the big screen," as she calls it. If you know me, you will know that I used to despise Apple products due to the differences in the interface compared to Android. However, after almost two months of using the iPad, I have become more used to navigating around and actually have enjoyed a few things like AirDrop and multitasking, to name a few. There are still things I prefer in Android and Windows, but I can appreciate the Apple ecosystem a bit more now. In a similar way, I currently prefer wired mice over wireless ones. The constant worry of needing to charge the device makes me not want to use it at all. In addition, I like ultralight mice and so I think wireless mice would have too much inside to be light. However, we have seen featherweight wireless mice like the ROCCAT Kone Pro Air. Today, we have the Cooler Master MM731, another entrant that hopes to best the rest with an even lighter shell and wireless functionality. How does it perform and will it cause me to change my opinions about wireless mice? Read on to find out!

Today's review unit arrived from Cooler Master's offices in City of Industry, California. Traveling with FedEx and their standard Ground service to our APH Networks offices here in Calgary, Alberta, the box arrived in good condition with no real bumps or bruises to be concerned about. Our original unit of the Cooler Master MM731 was indeed sent to us with the SK653, but we had a replacement unit sent to us due to some missing hardware, which is why we have a different box in the photo above. Thankfully, everything was present with our units today, so we can proceed with our review.

As with many of our other Cooler Master peripherals and products we have received, the retail container of the MM731 uses a gray and purple color scheme. The front of the box shows off the mouse. Cooler Master graciously sent us both their black and white models, so we will be taking a look at both of them. Otherwise, the box is pretty simple with the product name at the bottom and the company logo on the top edge. Down the edge, there are a few features to point out on the MM731, including the fact this mouse is an ultralight at 60g of weight for the white one and 59g for the black one. We also have a 19K DPI sensitivity sensor and primary buttons capable of 70 million actuations. There are a few more features listed at the bottom, including the fact there is grip tape and a USB Type-A to Type-C adapter included to extend the wireless transmitter. At the bottom, we have a tagline of "Wireless Lightweight Gaming Mouse with Optical Switches". Otherwise, around the box are all of the features and specifications listed for informative purposes.

Before I continue, I have grabbed the specifications from the manufacturer's website for your perusal:

Out of the box, Cooler Master has packaged the MM731 in a very compact way to reduce packaging. The mouse itself is found in a foam bag to prevent scratches or surface damage while the mouse is in transit. Each mouse comes with a long 1.8m cable, the aforementioned wireless extender, and some 3M grips to make the mouse easier to hold on to. Otherwise, there is a bit of documentation to quickly get the mouse working with your computer and some warranty information. Cooler Master includes a standard two-year warranty, which is a good but typical length of warranty for peripherals.
